An outsider can be defined as someone that is meant to be left out on purpose. There are many feelings that may arise as a result because of being an outsider, such as loneliness, depression, sadness, and anger. An outsider may feel excluded at another country, school, home, neighborhood, and society. Lastly, there is religion.
There different kinds of people there are outsiders, insiders, and broader liners. I am a broader liner because at my home it seems that every one hates me at my house because I have a lot of bad luck there. At school, I am a normal kid so that is why I can fit in at school. As you can see the different types of people makes up classes.
Stereotypes can lead someone to become an outsider by choice or not by choice. For example, my mom was called a nerd. It made her feel like it is just a word, but if it was someone sensitive, it will make them cry non-stop. The “cool” kids called her that. This is one of a lot of examples.
Another example about stereotypes comes from the book “The Outsiders.” Two characters from the book discuses stereotypes. Ponyboy, a greaser, believes that socs are rich snotty kids that jump greasers. Cherry, a soc, believes that greasers are are poor rude kids and jump socs. However, this is only a sample of what they believe.
Other stereotypes are also explained in C. Addichie’s Ted Talk called “A danger of a single story.” In this presentation, she discusses that if you see an image repeatedly that is what it becomes in your mind. A couple examples that she thought all books had to have foren characters. Addichie’s roommate thought that she was a complete savage before seeing her. Addichie thought Mexicans lived illegal lives. However, there are more examples.
Despite stereotypes, epiphanies challenge individuals to become better people. An epiphany is a sudden moment of realizing. An example is who had an epiphany is me yes me. My name is Dillian Smothermon I am right now 12 years. I am a good student right now but not the past. This happens in all lives no matter what.
My epiphany stared when I came to this school for the first time. My past was bad because I got horrible grades and I was quiet at school. Right now, I am a great student and I am no longer quiet at school. My epiphany is I realized I had to do better. Even at a young age, it can hit you.
in additon to me, there is an other example comes from the book “The Outsiders,” Johnny Cade went from zero to hero. He used to be a greaser that wanted all socs dead. After his epiphany, he says fighting does nothing at all. It was as if Johnny was two completely different people.
Learning about outsiders, stereotypes, and epiphanies has helped me rember that I have changed a lot. I used to be a snotty nose brat that was over spoiled almost like Bob from the book “The Outsiders.” Now I have been tamed and very good. In addition, I am not as spoiled. “BOOM!” That is quite an epiphany that I had.
